Alan arrived in Australia from the UK in 2003 as a father of seven. That has now grown to thirteen children and six grandchildren. Alan and his family have resided in the same home in Tamborine Queensland since their arrival.
Alan’s trade on arrival was network cabling and business telephone systems installation. This is how he supported his family until 2013 when he had a complete change of direction. Taking on an administration role with a newly formed debt collection business, he was soon learning how to deal with the day-to-day accounts under the watchful eye and guidance of his employer, a chartered accountant. His main duties were general admin, accounts receivable & payable, bank reconciliation, payroll, and trust account administration.
In early 2020 Alan was made redundant because of the sale of the business. So, after seven years in the same job, Alan was an unemployed bookkeeper with no qualifications. There was only one answer to this. That was to become qualified.
So, as a mature student, In July 2022 Alan completed and received his Certificate IV in Accounting & Bookkeeping. Alan caught the learning bug and went on to complete studies to become a Justice of the Peace. He was appointed as a Justice of the Peace (Qualified) in February 2023.
